Interviewed with Jokowidodo

During the campaign period, Jokowi often asserted four points that he promised to implement if voted as governor: a Smart Card to substitute a 12-Year Compulsory Education Program, a Healthy Card to substitute Regional Health Insurance, the construction of flats on the river banks and naturalization of residents’ permit for people living in disputed lands.

01

What is your main priority?

To work on education and health programs for the community. There will be a Smart Card for education and health services. We still need to look at the budget, but the Smart Card for education and health services must be accessible as soon as possible for the community.

02

After that?

Other programs include flood and traffic congestion reduction efforts. We will see which rivers need to be dredged or widened to overcome floods. Furthermore, we will evaluate which land needs to be acquired to accommodate river normalization program.

03

How will you overcome traffic problem?

What we need is transportation management. The management of Transjakarta, regular buses, monorails and mass rapid transit (MRT) is required in order for those systems to be realized. More Transjakarta buses are required to reduce the long queue. The monorail is only a matter of execution—the budget is there, all we have to do is complete it. Meanwhile, regular buses need to be revamped. The MRT needs to be constructed immediately to provide public transportation. The blueprint has been around for 20 years without any executions

05

Is there any special trick?

Urban spatial redesigning and the construction of flats and affordable apartments in the city center. Such methods with shorten the distance between residential areas and business centers and accommodate the residents’ mobility.

What will you do after the inauguration?

On Monday, I will have my pictures taken all afternoon. On Tuesday, I will conduct visits to the villages.
